WLES Monthly Mention
Find out what's happening at WLES!
May - Zooming to the End of the Year!
May is always a busy time of year in schools as well as in homes. Spring sports are in full swing, and nights are filled with activities. Many students and families are looking forward to the Summer and the changes in routine that come along. For many, the end of the school year can be difficult. Missing friends, classmates, and teachers, along with the uncertainty of the summer schedule can be difficult. Please keep this in mind and let us know if your child is having a particularly difficult time with this upcoming transition.
With Purdue's classes ending before ours, families frequently leave West Lafayette early due to connections to the University. If your child will be leaving school before May 22, please notify his/her teacher and Mrs. Kate Miller. Please let us know if your family is relocating or will be returning for the 2024-2025 school year.
Wishing you all a wonderful May!
Mrs. Sara Delaney
Principal
Staff Appreciation Week, May 6 - 10
The staff at WLES work tirelessly to support the students and families in our care. From crossing guards, bus drivers, and cafeteria staff to teachers, paraprofessionals, office staff, and custodians, ALL have invaluable roles in the day-to-day events of our school. Each adult takes great pride in making WLES an amazing place.
We celebrate everyone this week and recognize their gifts and talents!
A huge thank you to our Parent Council and sponsors, who have put together an amazing week ahead (see the daily treats and ideas for students here). A special thank you to the Chiang and Chin Memorial Fund, which donated funds toward the purchase of new furniture and décor for the staff lounge. Our staff will greatly enjoy the comfortable seating options and homey feel when gathering together or relaxing during lunch.
Farewell to our Third Graders
Each year, we celebrate our third graders and wish them well in their transition to fourth grade at WLIS. We will have our traditional send-off on Wednesday, May 22, at promptly 2:45 PM. This is a QUICK event, so please don't be late if you plan to join us! Students will exit from Door 6 by the playground, parade around the exterior of the school, and re-enter the building via Door 11, off the Benton St. parking lot. There will not be time for visits as students will join their classes in their rooms for final goodbyes. Signs, cheers, and clapping are much encouraged! Please plan to park in the tennis court parking lot, and feel free to line up along the curbs to cheer on our rising fourth graders!
Our Parent Council has been busy with Staff Appreciation Week, fundraising, and teacher grants! Be sure to check out their update HERE and join them for their open meeting and callout on Tuesday, May 7th at 6:00 PM in the Multipurpose Room. Please enter through the front doors.
New Student Enrollment
Please help to spread the word as you meet new neighbors over the summer! We will have active online enrollment for new students throughout the summer. Families can start by accessing the portal on our website via this link. We will need proof or residency and a birth certificate or passport for all new enrollments. Dates for in-person assistance will be shared in our Summer Monthly Mention. Thank you for helping to find our new Red Devils!
Lunchroom Supervisors Needed
We are in need of lunchroom supervisors for next school year! We can always use substitute supervisors as well. If you would like an opportunity to be part of our school team, please email Mrs. Holmes for further details! Click the flyer for a link to the online application portal.

Volunteer Background Checks (UPDATED)
For those who are planning to volunteer within the classroom or on a trip and will remain under the supervision of the classroom teacher, a limited criminal history check will suffice. This will require you to come to the school office with your state issued ID. It takes just a few moments and is free. Please call and speak to Amy Smith before coming in as she will be able to share a good time to stop by.
